Bellevue Baseball Loses to Pierce 4-2

Bellevue College baseball could not get anything going against Pierce College’s pitchers as the Bulldogs fell 4-2 in the opening game of the Tacoma-Pierce Invite. Pierce took advantage of early walks by Bellevue starting pitcher Noel Gonzalez to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Bellevue answered back with a leadoff triple by Alex Check followed by a sacrifice fly by Lawyer Braun. It would be one of two sacrifice RBI’s by Braun on the day. Insurance runs by Pierce off reliever Kash Koltermann in the sixth and seventh innings sealed the win for Pierce. Check had a double and triple to lead Bellevue’s offense. Gonzalez struck out seven in five innings of work and pitched in the 92-93 mph range early in the game, but was plagued by control issues as he walked four which accounted for half of Pierce’s runs. Bellevue, now 10-5 overall, takes on Treasure Valley (OR) tomorrow at a new site and time due to anticipated rain. The game will be at 5PM at Ravensdale Complex, adjacent to the Rock Creek Training Center in the Maple Valley-Ravensdale area. The field features a brand new all-artificial turf complex with lights.
