In a reverse of the previous week, Bellevue College baseball lost both opening games of their doubleheaders against Shoreline but won the nightcaps of both to go 2-2 over the weekend.

On Saturday April 4, Shoreline scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to chase Bellevue ace Zander Clouse. The big blow was a bases-loaded fly ball that drifted into the right-center gap to clear the bases. Alex Galgano and Sam Finfer each had two hits including home runs. Finfer’s blast got Bellevue back within striking distance in the late innings. He had three RBI’s in the game.

In game two, the nine inning affair, both teams could only generate three hits on the day. Bellevue put up two runs in the eighth for the win. A leadoff walk to Drew Nelson and a single by Galgano put runners at the corners with no outs. A sacrifice fly by Tino Peleti scored Nelson. Two walks, one intentional to Finfer, loaded the bases for Evan Johnson who also had a sacrifice fly to score Galgano. Corbin Powers was brilliant on the mound, going eight plus innings while striking out 10 batters and walking only three in the three-hitter.

On Sunday April 5, Shoreline struck fast by loading the bases on the first three pitches of the game. Shoreline would capitalize with four runs in the first. They would tack on another two in the third and knock out Bellevue pitcher Cody Anderson, who entered the game with one of the lowest ERA’s of all pitchers in the entire NWAC. Galgano had a triple and scored on a error to lead Bellevue’s offense.

In game two, it was another opposite of sorts, as Bellevue jumped out to an 11-0 lead after two innings to coast to a 17-3 win. Not only was it opposite in style with Bellevue jumping out early, but also compared to game two on Saturday, when Bellevue could only generate three hits. In Sunday’s nightcap, the Bulldogs pounded out 15 hits as Niko De La Cruz went 4-for-5 and had five RBI’s to lead Bellevue. Finfer had three hits while Johnson had three RBI’s.

Bellevue is now 4-4 in league and 17-9 overall. The Bulldogs begin their four game set against Skagit Valley this weekend, as they travel to Mount Vernon this Saturday April 11 for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader before returning home this Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against the Cardinals.
