Bellevue College baseball won all four games in their series versus Olympic College this past weekend. The series sweep marks the first time Bellevue has won back-to-back games in nearly a month. On Thursday, April 23, Bellevue won a pair over Olympic at Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey, W by scores of 5-0 and 10-6.  In the shutout, Marty Luckenbach tossed a two-hitter before giving way to Noel Gonzalez who struck out two in the final inning for the win. The Bulldogs put up three runs in the fourth on consecutive hits by Alex Galgano, Sam Finfer (double in the right center gap), and Trai Patrick. In game two, Bellevue put up 10 runs and had a comfortable lead heading into the final inning until Olympic was allowed back in the game by scoring three times in the ninth. Zach Usselman came in to strike out two to earn the save. Several Bellevue hitters had two hits in the game including Galgano, Finfer, and Patrick. Niko De La Cruz, Shane Stober, Jordan LaFave, and Dylan Vchulek also had multiple hits in the 17-hit attack.

On Saturday, April 25, Bellevue hosted Olympic for a twilight doubleheader in the first ever night game under lights played at Courter Field. Zander Clouse tossed a no-hitter for Bellevue. The monumental accomplishment is believed to be the first no-hitter thrown by a Bellevue pitcher in over 25 years. Clouse appeared to gain momentum as the game grew, with a fast ball that began at 88 mph in the first inning but increased up to 92 mph by the middle of the game. Alex Check had the big day at the plate, going 3-for-3. Vchulek also had three hits. In the nightcap, Corbin Powers turned in his fourth straight stellar appearance on the mound as Bellevue won 6-5. Powers scattered five hits and struck out seven while surrendering one earned run. Patrick and Galgano each had two RBI’s while Tino Peleti had two hits.

The doubleheaders on both days were nearly identical; Bellevue earned 5-0 wins in the first games, and won the nightcaps behind the clutch pitching of Zach Usselman, who earned saves in both games in clutch situations after earlier relief pitching squandered the lead.  The wins put Bellevue in third place at 11-9 in league and 24-14 overall. After two extra-inning wins over the weekend, Shoreline continues to stay right with Bellevue in a battle for the final two playoff berths. Bellevue takes on Green River in their only mid-week non-conference game of the year this Wednesday, April 29. The single game begins at 3 p.m.
