A five run first inning fueled by four errors did not help Team Johnson’s starting pitcher Travis Ulvestad as Team Usselman held on for an 8-6 win to take the fall world series three games to one. Lawyer Braun homered in the first inning and doubled to lead Team Usselman. Team Johnson rallied back with a five run inning in the final frame as Tino Peleti and Evan Slate both had 2-RBI hits but fell short. The win by Usselman’s club won the series as Team Johnson must now rake the leaves of the BC Baseball memorial tree; a large oak tree at the main entrance to Courter Field.

On Friday October 16, with the series already won by Team Usselman, the final scrimmage of the fall season was for a team dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. Team Johnson, and specifically pitcher Ulvestad, got revenge by eeking out a 3-2 win. Ulvestad was dominating as the closer, striking out two of the three hitters he faced including a game-ending strikeout of Braun to seal the win for Team Johnson. Starting pitcher Cody Anderson was stellar in his three innings of work to lead Team Johnson, who scored all three runs in the first inning and were held scoreless for the next eight innings. After the first inning, Usselman’s pitchers, including himself, Alex Worthington, Josh Thompson, Drew Lomsdalen, and Brooks Hanson blanked Team Johnson to keep them in the ball game.

Bellevue will now begin their off-season two-hour per week skill training for the next six weeks until finals week in early December.
