Women’s Basketball Takes Third at Linn-Benton Crossover

Bellevue College women’s basketball played yet another challenging pre-season tourney, finishing third at the Linn-Benton Crossover Tourney in Albany, OR.

On Friday December 18 in the opening round, Bellevue defeated a tough Columbia Basin squad 74-61. Down by four at halftime, the Bulldogs blew out the Hawks in the second half outscoring them 38-21. Shelby Kassuba led BC with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals; leading the team in all three categories. Mikayla Jones also had 22 points.

In the semi-final on Saturday December 19 against Umpqua (OR), the Bulldogs lost 91-76. Jones had 25 points while Montana Hagstrom had 19, but the two were ice cold from three point range, shooting for a combined 4-for-14.

On Sunday December 20 following the tough loss to Umpqua, Bellevue bounced back with an 80-58 win over host Linn-Benton. Jones and Erin Hamilton were multi-dimensional in their efforts, as Jones, who has already established herself as one of the most prolific scorers in the entire NWAC, dished out 10 assists and had 12 rebounds to go with her team-leading 26 points.Hamilton, who is quickly establishing herself as one of the top freshmen in the region, had 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Bellevue gets the holidays off before it’s next game on December 28th in the Skagit Valley Tourney. The Bulldogs play at 3:00 p.m. vs. South Puget Sound.
