Bellevue College’s women’s basketball team continued its winning ways with a convincing 68-56 win over host Skagit Valley in the Skagit Valley Holiday Tournament in Mount Vernon, Washington. The Bulldogs cruised through the tourney, winning all three games by double-digits.

On Monday, Dec. 28, Bellevue defeated South Puget Sound 77-66 in their tourney opener. Mikayla Jones and Erin Hamilton played every minute, scoring 22 and 20 points respectively. Jones was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line and had 9 rebounds as well. Shelby Kassuba also had 15 points and led the Bulldogs with 10 rebounds.

On Tuesday, Bellevue topped a tough Spokane club in the semifinals, 69-57. Spokane, entering the game with a 10-3 record, is one of the top teams in the Eastern Region. The win gave the Bulldogs another victory against a top team from another region; putting BC among the elite in the NWAC.  While Jones could not find her touch from the perimeter, shooting only 4-of-13 from the field, Kassuba picked her teammate and the club up by carrying the ‘dogs with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

On Wednesday, Bellevue was challenged by the host team, Skagit Valley. Jones and Hamilton were unstoppable, as Jones poured in 24 points on an amazing 11-of-14 night from the field. She also led the squad with 6 rebounds and handed out 4 assists. Hamilton was equally as impressive, scoring 20 on 8-for-11 shooting. Down 15-10 after the first quarter, the Bulldogs gained momentum each quarter and outdistanced the Cardinals by tying the game at halftime before running away with it with 41 points in the second half.

Bellevue is now 9-3 overall and plays its final non-conference game on January 6 with a 6 p.m. matchup against Centralia.
