Bellevue College men’s basketball scored 52 points in the second half but was not enough to overcome the host Skagit Valley Cardinals in a 95-88 loss last night in Mount Vernon.

The Bulldogs were on fire in the second half, hitting 7-of-10 from three point range for the high scoring shootout in the second half. The Cardinals answered with 55 points in the second half to keep Bellevue at a distance.

Both teams had a balanced scoring attack with Skagit having five players in double figures and Bellevue with four.  Freshman Jordan Muir-Kueng led BC with 19 points. Jack Walton added 17 points. The big man down under was extremely efficient, going 5-for-8 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Brian Zehr and Yonathan Michael each had 16 points. Zehr also led the ‘dogs with 7 rebounds.

Bellevue is 0-3 in league and 9-9 overall. Although winless in league play so far, Bellevue is only two games behind the leader and is also tied at 0-3 with Whatcom; the highest-ranked team in the North Region heading into league play.

The competitiveness and balance in the North has been evident so far with no team racing out in front in the win-loss category.

Bellevue travels to Edmonds on Wednesday , Jan. 20 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
