In a game pitted as the feature game in the NWAC, not only because it was the chosen “NWAC Game of the Week” by the conference office, but also because of the two teams being ranked #4 and 5 in the conference, Bellevue topped Peninsula 77-70.  The Bulldogs hosted Peninsula in a battle of two of the top teams in the North Region. Bellevue jetted out front 36-26 at halftime. Peninsula would make a small comeback, only to be squashed by Bellevue’s hot shooting in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs poured in 25 points in the final frame.

Shelby Kassuba, coming off one of her top games of the year against Edmonds, did not disappoint as a sophomore veteran, leading the ‘dogs with 24 points. She was 12-for-19 from the field and led the team underneath with 9 rebounds as well. Outside threat Mikayla Jones had an off night from the perimeter, shooting only 4-of-17 from the field, but made up for it by going 5-for-6 at the line and led the team with 8 assists. Montana Hagstrom had 13 points and 6 rebounds while Erin Hamilton, the other freshman phenom on Bellevue’s squad, chipped in 11 points and had 8 rebounds.

The win gave Bellevue a confidence boost after a tough loss last weekend at Skagit Valley. The win keeps Bellevue in second place at 4-1 along with Peninsula and one game behind undefeated Skagit Valley (5-0 in league). The Bulldogs are 14-4 overall. Their next game is this Wednesday January 27 at Whatcom. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
