As the clock winds down on the regular season, Bellevue’s men’s basketball team seems to gain more momentum at the right time, as the Bulldogs reeled off their fifth win in a row with a huge 90-82 win over visiting Edmonds. The win was not only their fifth consecutive, but the wins also continue against tougher competition, as the Tritons have been near the top of the North Region standings all year long. The win puts Bellevue now in a tie for fourth place, and in playoff contention.

In a contrast to the women’s game, the Bulldogs were shooting the lights out in the first half, draining 47% from the field including an amazing 9-of-15 from three point range. Jordan Muir-Kueng was on fire, draining 5-of-7 three pointers en route to a team leading 20 points. The Bulldogs then came out in the second half, making nearly everything they were throwing up, making 61% of their shots from the field; a team best for this year. The offense which relied on the long ball from the perimeter in the first half then went inside and got significant points from Calvin Dennis (12 points) and Jack Walton (11). Brian Zehr added 11 points and 6 rebounds as did sophomore Payton Tirrell, who came off the bench with one of his biggest performances in his two-year career. Yonathan Michael added 13 points as well.

The Bulldogs (5-6 league, 14-12 overall) travel to Peninsula Saturday February 20 for a 6:00 p.m. showdown between the two hottest teams in the NWAC. Peninsula is currently in first place in the North Region with a comfortable three game cushion, thanks to Bellevue’s win over Edmonds. A win by Bellevue would put the Bulldogs in complete control of their own destiny with their final two games of the regular season next week against the two teams who are only one game in front of them in the standings in Whatcom and Everett.
