Bulldog Softball Opens Season With Three Wins

Bellevue College softball’s powerhouse program has continued where it left off from last year by winning three of four games this past weekend at Delta Park in Portland, Ore. On Saturday, Feb. 27, Bellevue defeated Corban University (Ore.) 6-1 before falling in the nightcap 11-6 to Clackamas.

In their season opener against Corban, the Bulldogs plated five runs in the second inning to take control. Rachel Delamare, one of Bellevue’s top returners, and freshman Cierra Barkis had three hits apiece. Pitcher Ciera Lockwood was dominant on the mound, allowing only two hits in a complete game effort while striking out 9.

In game two, Clackamas put up 11 runs which was too much to overcome. The game was close until the final inning, when Clackamas put up five runs in the top of the seventh to seal the win. Barkis and Delamare continued their hot hitting with two hits while Barkis had three RBI’s. Rayne Sylvester had two hits as well.

On Sunday, Feb. 28, Bellevue came back to defeat Clackamas 11-3. BC put up a quick four runs in the first inning then tacked on seven more in the late innings to blow out the Cougars. Barkis and Delamare were the damagers offensively with three hits apiece. Katy Sinn had three hits also. Transfer Alex Boyd clubbed her second home run of the year to aid Bellevue’s offensive outburst. Tessani Dixon, Bellevue power threat last year, had two hits including a double.

Bellevue defeated Corban 8-0 in a five-inning game shortened by the run mercy rule. Dixon went off at the plate with 6 RBI’s and a two home runs, going a perfect 3-for-3 in the game. Delamare was a perfect 3-for-3 as well and scored three times. Sylvester went the complete game on the mound to record the shutout.

Bellevue plays this weekend in the Intra-Region Tourney at Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey. With all synthetic turf fields, and with rain in the forecast, the schedule remains intact for this weekend. Bellevue opens up against NWAC South Region powerhouse SW Oregon at 5 p.m followed by a 7 p.m. game against Clark.
