Bellevue College’s men’s basketball team had their magic run end tonight with an 84-76 loss at Big Bend. The Vikings, who came in with a 13-1 league / 23-7 overall record and the number one ranking in the NWAC Coaches’ Poll, had a tough battle shaking of Bellevue. Up 36-31 at halftime, BC stayed with Big Bend but could not generate any momentum to swing their way despite shooting 52% from the field in the second half. The Bulldogs could not hit from long range in the first half, making only 3-of-11 from three point range. The squad also was inconsistent at the free throw line, making only 10 of 18 for 56%.

Jordan Muir-Kueng had 25 points and 10 rebounds, leading Bellevue in both categories. Yonathan Michael and Jack Walton had 17 and 16 points respectively.

Although the Bellevue College men’s basketball team (16-14 overall) was eliminated tonight from the NWAC Championships in the opening round, they might be one of the most talked about teams in the conference when people look back at the 2015-16 season. The Bulldogs started off 0-6 in league, then went on an incredible run in the second half of the season to qualify for the NWAC playoffs. No other team made a turnaround as the ‘dogs did this year. Add to the fact that they had only one lone sophomore who played last year, Brian Zehr, and also that he was injured twice and sat out the first half of league play and their playoff loss tonight, makes their season even more impressive. It was quite evident the impact Zehr had on BC’s success this season. With a roster filled with talented freshmen, BC men’s basketball appears to already have a head start on next year’s season.
