Bellevue College baseball pitching came up big on Saturday April 2 while the offense exploded for six home runs on Sunday as the Bulldogs won all four games in league-opening weekend play.

On Saturday, Cody Anderson tossed seven innings of shutout ball while striking out nine and walking only one as Bellevue won the opener 4-0. Anderson is now the NWAC leader in strikeouts on the season with 38 and is bidding to win the strikeout title for a second time in three years for BC since Nick Kiel claimed the honors in 2014. Drew Lomsdalen continued to keep Olympic’s hitters silent by tossing a two-hitter through six innings before giving way to Josh Thompson who earned the win with three innings of shutout ball in the 6-1 in game two. Joe Wainhouse delivered the big hit with a 2-RBI double down the left field line to score Sean Clancy and Austin Pinorini for the game-winners.

On Sunday, Bellevue’s bats coupled with a no-hitter by Dominic DeMiero through five innings gave Bellevue a 10-0 win. DeMiero did not walk a batter and faced only one over the minimum in his five innings of work. Wainhouse hit two home runs to lead Bellevue, which was aided offensively by nine walks by Olympic pitchers and five errors. Wainhouse had three hits in the game as did Lawyer Braun who also had four RBI’s. In the nightcap, Dylan Vchulek hit his first career home run in the first inning before Olympic erupted for seven runs over the next four innings to take the lead.  Captain Zach Usselman propelled Bellevue to the win with his stellar relief pitching and his bat offensively. Usselman came on and pitched three innings for the win and also had the game-winning hit after Shane Stober tied the game with a three-run home run. Stober, Vchulek, Wainhouse, and Tino Peleti all hit homers for Bellevue. The power display catapulted Bellevue to the top of team home runs with 17 on the season.

The four-game sweep puts Bellevue at 4-0 in league and 17-5 overall. Bellevue takes on Douglas College this weekend as the ‘dogs are seeking revenge on Douglas, who won 3-of-4 last year in the final week of league play to knock Bellevue out of playoff contention in 2015. Saturday’s doubleheader is set for Courter Field at 1:00 p.m. with Sunday’s twinbill at Whalley Park in Surrey, B.C. also set for 1:00 p.m.
