Team Olson Edges Parthemer 3-2 in Best-of-Five Fall World Series

Bellevue College Baseball ended it’s six-week fall practice session with it’s annual Fall World. In game one Team Parthemer (coached Assistant Coach Craig Parthemer) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but was quickly stopped by Team Olson’s (coached by Assistant Coach David Olson) squad. Through good pitching, and a clutch two-RBI single by Griffin McCormick Team Olson leaped out to a lead. Later in the game, Grant DeLappe and Austin Pinorini both stole bases to reach scoring position to secure an 8-1 win.

Game 2 went to Team Parthemer in a 5-0 victory. The runs were fueled early by RBI singles from Austin Shenton and Brennen Hancock. These combined with a stellar start by Josh Thompson shut down the offense of Team Olson. Thompson had four strikeouts in his three innings of work and combined with Robbie Shineman for the five-inning one-hit victory.

The series was been forced to a fifth deciding game after the two teams split games three and four, bringing the series total to 2-2 for each side. In game three, Kash Koltermann started for Team Olson and threw three of the five innings giving up only one run. This gave the squad an opportunity to jump ahead to a 3-1 lead. With good relief pitching from Andrew Ellingson, Team Parthemer battled back to tie the game. It was then decided by a walk-off double for Team Olson by McCormick in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Game four went to Team Parthemer. A solid start from Noah Rawls had Team Olson in the lead after the first three innings of play leading 1-0. But Team Parthemer’s offense was able to battle back and score six in the bottom of the fourth inning. Team Olson rallied, but was stopped by reliever Shineman with the tying run in the batter’s box and the score of 6-4.
Game 5 of the series was decided in a nail-biter. Team Parthemer quickly jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead with some early offense charged by a Hancock solo home run to right center field. Team Olson battled back though and tied the game via a Pinorini triple and an RBI ground out by Aki Buckson to tie the game at 2-2. From there on, the pitching held tough on both sides until the tie was cracked in the bottom of the seventh inning. After two leadoff walks, Team Olson was able to score the go ahead run via a sacrifice fly by Dominic Marinez, and a security run added on by a single by Chaun Mitchell. With Team Olson leading 4-2, Buckson was able to hold off Team Parthemer to earn the save. Team Olson won the series 3-2.
