Bellevue College women’s basketball went on the road last night for their final non-league contest before league play begins next week but lost 69-66 to host Centralia College. The Bulldogs raced out in front outscoring Centralia 25-17 in the third quarter, but then lost momentum in the final quarter, allowing the Centralia comeback.”We have the capability and talent, but we’ve had a tough time stringing together several quarters in a game of basketball we’re capable of playing,” said Head Coach Mel Stubblefield following the game.

After a tie score after the first quarter, the remainder of the game was a see-saw battle by quarter as Centralia went up at halftime before Bellevue’s big third quarter to take control of the game. Centralia’s Kylie Smith led the Blazers’ charge back in the final quarter. Brenda Akoto led Bellevue with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs shot only 35% from the field, but stayed in the game by sinking 15-of-17 at the free throw line.

Bellevue is now 8-5 and travel to Edmonds for the North Region league opener on January 11 for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
