Bellevue College men’s basketball continued their trend of flipping early season woes as the Bulldogs rallied back from a 10 point deficit at halftime to defeat visiting Shoreline 68-65 last night at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.
Shoreline came out with the hot hand in the first half, taking a commanding 39-29 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Dolphins shot nearly 60% from three-point territory, draining 8-of-14. In the second half, things fell apart for Shoreline offensively, as they were 1-for-8 from three-point land (12%) and only 29% overall from the field. Their 9-for-22 from the free throw line in the second half added to their cold shooting as Bellevue caught fire shooting 55% from the field and made 15-of-21 from the free throw line.
Taylor Freeman, who put pressure on Shoreline’s defense all night, capitalized by draining 13-of-17 from the free throw line en route to a team-leading 23 points. Freeman also led the ‘dogs with 6 rebounds. Trey Nelson added 19 points.
The win, coupled with an Edmonds upset win over Whatcom last night, puts Bellevue in second place now (three-way tie for second at 3-2) behind Peninsula, a team Bellevue beat last Saturday. Bellevue travels to Whatcom this Saturday January 28 for a pivotal game as both teams are tied for second. The match up in Bellingham begins at 6:00 p.m.
