Bellevue Alums Making Impact at Four-Year Universities

So far the former Bellevue College Bulldogs are representing well in the beginning of this 2017 baseball season.

In the D1 ranks, Zach Usselman at North Carolina State University squared off against former teammates Dylan Vchulek, Jordan LaFave, and Dominic DeMiero at the University of Hawaii. NC State took 2 of 3 games in the series. Usselman threw 2 innings in the first game of the series allowing no hits with 1 strikeout. Vchulek had a hot series batting .500 scoring twice and driving in a run. Dominic DeMiero threw game 2 for Hawaii earning the win in 7 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run while giving up only 6 hits and striking out 5.

Former NWAC strikeout leader Cody Anderson had a good first outing for Washington State University against Sacramento State University. Cody set the pace for the 4-3 WSU win throwing 4.2 innings in his start allowing only 2 runs and striking out 7.

At the University of Portland, former BC pitchers, Marty Luckenbach and Corbin Powers got their first appearances of the season in game 3 of their series against the Cal State Northridge. Powers earned the start and gave 4.1 innings of work allowing 2 runs, only 3 hits, and striking out 2. Luckenbach came in relief throwing 1 inning recording a strikeout.

Outfielder Evan Johnson got his season going with a bang for the University of Northern Colorado. The former Bellevue slugger earned his first Division 1 home run in game 3 of their series against the University of San Francisco. The 3-run homer was the first of many to come for Evan.

At Seattle University, Aaron Stroosma and Travis Ulvestad also showed success. Stroosma finished the series against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville batting .400 in 15 AB’s. Aaron also belted 1 HR to add to his opening series success. Ulvestad also earned his first outing of the season coming in to face one batter in a specialty role and got the job done.

At Marshall University, Sam Finfer also slugged his first home run of the season.

Joe Wainhouse had an electric first outing for the University of Washington Huskies. Joe made his first Division 1 appearance on the mound to close the series clinching game 3 for the Huskies over Santa Clara. Joe faced 3 hitters in the 9th striking out 2.

In the NAIA ranks, Lawyer Braun is off to a hot start for #6 ranked Lindsey Wilson University. Braun is batting .304 in 23 AB’s with 1 double, 1 homerun, 1 stolen base, and 6 RBI.
At #14 ranked Campbellsville University, Shane Stober has been helping his team to a great start to the 2017 season. Campbellsville has started their season 6-2 and won their most recent series over Huntington University.

At Vanguard University, Trai Patrick is off to a blazing start. He has led his team in batting at .463 in 54 AB’s. Trai has slugged 2 homeruns and 4 doubles while driving in 14 runs leading his team to a 10-6 record to start 2017.

At the Oregon Institute of Technology, Brooks Hanson has earned two starts on the mound. He has thrown 9 innings allowing 5 runs and striking out 5.
