Women’s Basketball Falls to Peninsula

In a much anticipated showdown for title rights for the North Region, visiting Peninsula College outplayed host Bellevue in nearly every aspect resulting in a 79-60 loss for Bellevue yesterday afternoon at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. With four teams within a game of each other with only a few remaining league games left, yesterday’s battle was a pivotal one for both teams, as Bellevue, now on a three game losing skid, fell two games behind current co-leaders Peninsula and Skagit Valley.

Peninsula jumped out 22-16 in the first quarter and never looked back, outscoring BC in every quarter throughout the game. Although the Pirates weren’t necessarily on fire from the field in regards to shooting percentage, Peninsula outrebounded and took advantage of Bellevue’s fouls and turnovers by sinking 19-of-21 from the free throw line. The Pirates also capitalized with 22 points off BC turnovers.

Sophomore Erin Hamilton, playing in her second consecutive complete game without any rest, had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Freshman DeAyrra Perry came off the bench and led Bellevue with 7 rebounds while Molly Dixon had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and led the ‘dogs with 4 assists.

Bellevue is now 7-4 in league, with three games remaining. Bellevue still has chances to climb in the standings, as the Bulldogs have already played the three teams above them in region play, and have their last three against teams below them in the current standings. Bellevue travels to Shoreline on Wednesday February 22 for a 5:00 game against the Dolphins.
