Brenda Akoto scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and her twin sister Melinda Akoto had 11 rebounds along with 9 points to lift BC past Lower Columbia 70-62 in the Elite 8 of the NWAC Championships. The Bulldogs will face to-ranked Umpqua in the semifinals on Saturday, March 17 at Everett CC.

BC sophomore Brenda Akoto was selected as the NWAC women’s basketball North Region Most Valuable Player and coach Mel Stubblefield was named North Region Coach of the Year. The Bulldogs won the North Region title with a 10-2 conference mark and bring a 20-8 overall record into the NWAC Championships, which start Thursday, March 8.
