Bulldog Men Go 2-1 in Pierce Tourney With Win Over Green River

As the weekend progressed, Bellevue College men’s basketball showed progression from a tough season-opening loss to holding on to a lead for their first win to today’s complete effort as BC downed Green River 85-64 in consolation action at the Pierce Thanksgiving Tourney. For the first time in their short three game season so far, Bellevue continued momentum in the second half, outscoring the Gators 53-35 after heading into the locker room with a narrow 32-29 halftime lead.

The team also saw a balanced showing across the board with even scoring and rebounding among several players. Kai Warren led the ‘dogs with 19 points. He also led the team with eight rebounds and three steals. Ting-Jhao Jian kept his hot hand throughout the weekend on 5-for-8 shooting from the field for 16 points while 13 were contributed by both RaShawn Lemery and Andrew Shaw.

Bellevue shot over 80% from the line outscoring the Gators 20-3 at the free throw line. The game was close for the majority of the second half until a technical foul was assessed on Green River’s bench with about seven minutes remaining in the game. From there BC took control with two free throws by Jian and three-pointers by Parker Manalo, Shaw, and Warren. The 11 point swing turned what was close game into a blowout in a matter of minutes.

Bellevue’s strong finish in tourney put them at 2-1 on the season. They return to action in Eastern Washington this weekend with a game against Columbia Basin on Friday November 30 at 4:00 p.m. which will be played at Walla Walla Community College. The Bulldogs will then play Walla Walla on Saturday December 1 at 6:00 p.m.
