Women’s Basketball Win Overtime Thriller in Home Opener

Bellevue College women’s basketball won their home opener in style last night by taking a 68-65 win over visiting Chemeketa (OR). After an 0-2 start against national junior colleges on the road, the young squad continues to show they will be one of the teams to reckon with in the NWAC as the Bulldogs sank six free throws in overtime to seal the win.

Freshmen Dakota Laut and Natalie Amos both cashed in at the free throw line in overtime to lead Bellevue in the back and forth game. Addy Clabby had 18 points while Amanda Luckett had 13 rebounds to lead the ‘dogs.

With 30 seconds remaining in regulation, Amos sank both ends at the free throw line to tie the game. Both teams would have shots to win in with Amos getting another chance to be the hero but could not get down the game winner at the buzzer. In overtime, the Bulldogs’ work at the free throw line kept Chemeketa in check as Amos and Laut’s free throws gave BC the early lead and momentum. The Storm would rally back in the final seconds sending Bellevue’s Emma Jackson to the line twice in the final 15 seconds in overtime. Jackson sealed it making one of two in her two trips to the line.

Bellevue is now 1-2 on the year and continues to face stiff competition as the Bulldogs take on defending NWAC champion Walla Walla this Friday December 7 at 6:00 p.m. The game will be played at a neutral site as part of the Pierce Tourney in Lakewood, WA.
