Sluggish Start Dooms Bellevue Women’s Basketball

After a stretch of games showing steady improvement, the Bellevue College women’s basketball team got off to a slow start in which they could not overcome in an 86-72 loss to Wenatchee Valley in consolation play at the Raider Holiday Classic in Lakewood, WA. The Bulldogs allowed the Knights to build up a 49-32 lead at halftime which was too much against one of many teams of championship-caliber in the loaded tourney which features the majority of top teams in the NWAC.

While Wenatchee Valley shot 53 / 73% respectively in field goal and free throw percentage, Bellevue shot 28 and 50% in comparison in the first quarter. Bellevue also yielded nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes of play to aid Wenatchee. Over a two minute stretch in the first half, Bellevue did not manage to score a point which enabled Wenatchee Valley to extend a quick lead into a comfortable one. Although Bellevue did manage to match the Knights offensively in the second half, the damage appeared to be done in the first quarter against a very competitive Wenatchee Valley squad (5-2 on the year).

Jahdai Alcombrack led BC with 14 points.
