Bulldog Women’s Basketball Take Opener at Skagit Tourney

Bellevue College women’s basketball took less than 24 hours to forget about the drubbing to Vancouver Island University the night before as the Bulldogs cruised to a 67-51 win today over South Puget Sound in the opening round of the annual Skagit Holiday Tourney in Mount Vernon.  The ‘dogs blew open a close game outscoring the Clippers 23-12 in the final quarter.

Ashley Anderson led BC with 17 points and was 3-for-5 from long distance range in an improved night shooting as BC shot 42% from the field for the game; a marked improvement from last night.  Emma Jackson, while getting only 15 minutes on the floor, managed to lead Bellevue with six rebounds and chipped in 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting.

Bellevue raced out early 13-4 in the first quarter only to give up the lead early in the second quarter. The game would stay relatively close until the fourth when BC reeled off eight straight points to open up the quarter in the first two minutes of play. The hot shooting continued as Bellevue shot 50% as compared to South’s 25% in the quarter for the win.

Bellevue will get short rest as they play tomorrow, Saturday December 29 in round two of the tourney against Spokane with a 2:00 tipoff scheduled.
