Bulldog Women Win League Opener On Road 51-50

Jahdai Alcombrack’s free throw with one second remaining on the clock was just enough for the Bulldogs to take down a tough Peninsula team on the road 51-50 in the league opener for both teams tonight.  After the missing the first of her two free throws with one second remaining on the clock, Alcombrack delivered by draining her second attempt to seal the win. Missed free throws and a few costly turnovers kept the game in nail-biter fashion down the stretch in a game that was close from the tipoff, as the largest lead either team had was seven early in the first half.

19 seconds earlier, Alcombrack was faced with another two free throws but instead made her first attempt and missed the second, putting BC up 50-47. Bellevue’s Emma Jackson was in place to rebound Alcombrack’s missed second attempt but turned the ball over, giving Peninsula a window of opportunity which they capitalized on. Wasting only four seconds on the clock, Peninsula’s Cassandra White drained a three-pointer to tie the game. With the clock ticking down the final second, Peninsula made a costly mistake fouling Alcombrack with the score tied setting the stage for her free throw heroics.

Alcombrack led BC with 19 points. She was 9-for-14 from the line as Bellevue capitalized on Peninsula foul trouble with 28 attempts at the free throw line compared to Peninsula’s nine. Amanda Luckett was solid underneath with seven offensive boards and scored 14 points. Jackson had 11 rebounds as well as BC dominated underneath as well as the free throw line, outrebounding Peninsula 41-26.

Bellevue is 1-0 in league and 5-8 overall while Peninsula is 0-1 and 7-6 overall. Bellevue returns home for it’s league home opener this Saturday January 12 for a 4:00 start against Skagit Valley.
