In a close battle the entire night, Bellevue College women’s basketball fell just short, fading in the fourth quarter in a 54-46 loss to Skagit Valley tonight at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. Neither team shot well from the field, but Bellevue’s 18 fouls in comparison to Skagit Valley’s 11 allowed the Cardinals to capitalize, making 14-of-17 for 82% from the free throw line.

Skagit’s Kiah Charlie sank four throws in the final seconds to prevent any Bulldog last minute heroics. Free throws put Skagit in the lead at the 2:47 mark as Mieke Van Ess sank both ends of a one-and-one, putting the Cardinals up 45-44. Van Ess drained two more free throws with 22 seconds left putting Skagit up 50-46.

Bellevue was led by Amanda Luckett who had 14 points. Jahdai Alcombrack could not find her touch all night, shooting 4-for-19 from the field, but led the Bulldogs with six rebounds and eight assists. Ashley Anderson was 6-for-10 from the field and added 12.

Bellevue is now 1-1 in league (5-9 overall) while Skagit Valley improves to 2-0 (9-7 overall). The Bulldogs face Whatcom on the road next Wednesday January 16 in Bellingham.
