In an all-around team effort with several individuals making key contributions all night, the Bellevue College Bulldog men’s basketball team overtook the eight-ranked Edmonds Tritons tonight at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. Bellevue battled back from a three-point deficit at halftime with a 57% shooting percentage from the field for the big win.

For most of the second half, Edmonds had a slight lead over the ‘dogs until the 8:18 mark when Bellevue’s Ting-Jiao Jian sank three free throws to tie the game at 66. The three shots gave Bellevue the momentum for good as Emmanuel Siale the drained a 15-footer to put Bellevue up 68-66 which was a lead Bellevue would not give up.

In an explosive second half in which the Bulldogs scored 53 points, Malik Sanchez went 8-for-9 and had 18 points and six rebounds in the half to lead Bellevue’s comeback. Bellevue shot an amazing 68% in the second half.

Sanchez finished with 22 points while Jian had 20. Jian had a near perfect night in addition to his three clutch free throws to tie the game, as he was 6-for-8 from the field, 8-for-9 from the free throw line, and led the ‘dogs with seven assists.

The huge win puts Bellevue just a half game out of second place at 6-4 (15-8 overall). The Bulldogs travel to Bremerton for a Saturday February 23 showdown against Olympic at 4:00 p.m.
