Halfway through Bellevue College baseball’s season opener, the game was tied 4-4 as Bellevue had only four hits. Fortunately for the ‘dogs the four hits were all solo home runs as Bellevue, although being dominated by Mt. Hood left-handed pitcher and transfer from Seattle University, Dawson Day, managed to pop enough home runs out to scratch out a win in entertaining fashion, 6-4.

Freshman Riley Parker had a college debut of a lifetime, going 3-for-4 and hit two home runs. Dac Archer, who took the year off playing baseball last year after winning a state high school title and garnering MVP of the all-state game as a senior in high school, had an interesting college debut himself hitting an opposite field home run in the sixth, muscling a 1-2 count slider over the left field fence.

Colson Kirchner, another newcomer, had another impressive debut. The redshirt sophomore, who last played college baseball two years ago on the other side of the country, was in control for three innings in relief earning the win.

Dylan Ames added a towering solo shot in the seventh, while Riley Gill, Ames’ high school teammate (Skyline HS) added an insurance run driving in Parker in the ninth.

Game two had Bellevue up 1-0 early in the first on a triple by Dominic Marinez but was cancelled including the statistics in the first, due to rain. Games three and four on Sunday February 24 were snowed out and will be made up when Mt. Hood travels to Bellevue on Sunday April 14th. The two teams were originally scheduled to just play two games that weekend on Saturday April 13 but will now play a four-game set.

Bellevue returns home awaiting a four game set with Pierce College and their highly-touted pro prospect Anthony Hoopii. The Maui native was drafted last year by the Minnesota Twins but elected to not sign professionally and is expected to make his college debut next weekend against the Bulldogs after sitting out this weekend against Edmonds due to arm tenderness.

The first pitch is set for Saturday March 2 at 12:00 at Courter Field. The Bulldogs are expected to run out a  tentative starting pitching rotation of Michael Attalah and left-hander Nick Miller on Saturday with righties Brock Hathaway and Jared Maxfield on Sunday.
