Women’s Tennis Opens Season With Tough Loss to PLU 5-4

Bellevue College women’s tennis opened up the season, although with a loss, in fine fashion yesterday as the Bulldogs narrowly defeated a four-year university program, losing 5-4 to Pacific Lutheran University at Robinswood Tennis Center. Joanne Sakoda won #1 singles 7-6, 7-6 over Hannah Jeffries while Annie Luong and Haylee Irving won #4 and 5 singles respectively. Luong won in convincing fashion 6-1, 6-1 while Irving won a close battle 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 over Taylor Stokes.

Sakoda and Irving combined for BC’s lone win in doubles play winning 8-4 over the Lutes’ Emma Lund and Lauren Kearney.

Bellevue will face another four-year college, Willamette University this Saturday March 1 at 3:30 p.m. in Salem, OR.
