Brock Hathaway tossed a complete-game shutout, Bellevue’s first of the year, in a nail-biting 1-0 win over host Douglas yesterday in Surrey, B.C. Hathaway surrendered only three hits and one walk while striking out ten. Hathaway had a stretch of four innings from three through six when he retired three straight batters. He faced the minimum again in the ninth, with Douglas’ heart of the order up, fanning the final two batters. Kye Seitz, who led BC with two hits, scored the only run in the game in the sixth as he trotted home on a bases loaded walk to Carter Wallace.

In the nightcap, Bellevue took advantage of nine Douglas errors to cruise to a  win. The Royals, starting several new players who had not seen action in the first three matchups between the two teams, spotted Bellevue five runs in the first two innings on several miscues. Seitz continued to lead the ‘dogs with another two hits. Nate Butcher, making his debut in the starting rotation, responded with a six-inning stint allowing only three hits before Ben Anger and Michael Attalah came in to provide quality relief stints to keep Douglas at a distance.

The Bulldogs have now won four in a row and are now 16-9 overall and jumped up to third in the North with a 5-3 record. Bellevue takes on Mount Hood this Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Courter Field for a twilight doubleheader in a non-league matchup that was moved up a day due to possible inclement weather over the weekend. The teams are also slated to play another twinbill on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. which is a make up of a date that was previously snowed out during Bellevue’s opening weekend in late February.
