Baseball Splits Series With Edmonds

Pitcher Nick Miller

In a rivalry match that spans four decades, two of the top NWAC baseball programs battled to a 2-2 split in their four-game series as Edmonds won games one and four by scores of 3-2 in 10 innings and 7-4. On Saturday, the Bulldogs took game two 6-1 and Sunday’s opener 7-1.

On Saturday, Bellevue’s Brock Hathaway engaged in a pitching duel with Edmonds’ Luke Tedrick, who leads several pitching categories in the NWAC. Hathaway matched Tedrick but Edmonds prevailed as the game went into extra innings as the bullpen faltered for Bellevue giving up walks and wild pitches to give Edmonds the win. In the nightcap, Nate Butcher and Jared Maxfield were brilliant in a stellar pitching combo to give BC the easy 6-1 win. Ethan Smith and Dac Archer, who both had two hits on the day, had RBI’s singles in the four-run fifth inning for the ‘dogs.

On Easter Sunday today, Nick Miller was brilliant for the second week in a row as he went seven innings giving up zero earned runs and was complemented by Andrew Ellingson, who was dominant striking out four in two innings of relief work.

In the nightcap, Bellevue held a 4-3 advantage in the top of the ninth and appeared to be on the verge of winning the series after a leadoff pop -up by Edmonds’ Yugo Hamakawa. With one out, Edmonds would then take advantage of an error that would lead to four bloop singles, a hit a batter, a walk, and four runs. Going from two outs away from a series win to being down 7-4 in the ninth, the ‘dogs rallied by loading the bases before an Ethan Smith flyout ended the game.

The Bulldogs are now in third place with a 7-5 record and hit the 20-win mark for the season and are now 20-12 overall. They take on Olympic College this weekend in a four game series with Saturday’s doubleheader set for home at 1:00 p.m.
