Women’s Tennis Wins Tough Battle Over Highline

In a newfound local rivalry that was for the NWAC regular season league title, Bellevue College women’s tennis won 6-3 over Highline College today in NWAC league play at Robinswood Tennis Center. Sofia Panchuk continued her dominance in the NWAC tennis scene sweeping the T-Birds’ Miriam Cabrera 6-0, 6-0. Haylee Irving and Annie Luong won the toughest battles as each had to go to three sets to win. Irving topped Mikyla Olsen 3-6, then came back to win 7-6, and used her momentum to take the third set to 10, by a score of 10-7. Luong fell down 2-6 before flipping the momentum winning 6-0 and 6-2 on the next two sets to take #4 singles. Joanne Sakoda also won a point in singles play at #6.

In a bit of a stunner, Panchuk lost #1 doubles with partner Chen-Yu Tang 8-2. The Bulldogs’ depth proved to be the key factor as the pairings of Anna Sneesby and Luong, along with Irving and Sakoda won #2 and #3 doubles respectively to aid BC’s win.

With the win, Bellevue takes the regular season title with a 7-1 league record over Highline who finished 6-2 in league. Both teams will likely square off in several of the final day pairings at next weekend’s NWAC Championships which begin May 10 in Spokane. Here are the complete results from today’s matches:
