Volleyball Sweeps Past Chemeketa in Three

After an impressive debut last weekend at the season-opening NWAC Volleyball Showcase in Eugene, OR, the Bellevue College Bulldog volleyball squad won their home opener in three over Chemeketa (OR) 27-25, 28-26, and 25-9. In set one, the Bulldogs looked to be in control with a 23-18 lead. Three attack errors by the ‘dogs put the Storm right back in it at  tying it at 23 before Lilandra Dexter put BC back on the board giving the ‘dogs a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

In set two, the teams battled again down to the wire. Up 22-18, Bellevue appeared to be in control as in set one. However three attack errors in a row again plagued BC as the Storm took a 23-22 lead. Freshman Zaiah Luna-Calvin would answer up with two points down the stretch to give BC the close win.

In set three, the momentum shifted for good as the Bulldogs ran off six straight points led by Kelsie Otter’s three service aces to build a 17-5 lead.

The win puts Bellevue at 4-1 for the season after a split on Saturday August 25 (2-0 win over Lane, 2-1 loss to Tacoma) and wins on Sunday August 25 over Blue Mountain (2-0) and Clark (2-1). Bellevue travels to Centralia on Tuesday September 3 for a neutral site matchup vs. Clackamas at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 3:00 pm. battle against Mount Hood.
