Bulldogs Volleyball Ends With Strong Finish at NWAC Championships

Bellevue College volleyball ended their magical run through the loser’s bracket today with a 2-1 defeat to NWAC-expansion team Rogue, out of Grants Pass, OR. After a tradeoff off two close sets with Bellevue taking set one 25-23 before Rogue taking set two by an identical score, set three was the scene for a strong Rogue offense as eight kills in the put Bellevue down 11-4 as the Osprey hit at a .333 clip after hitting .150 and .113 in sets one and two. Bellevue on the other hand could not get anything going in set three, hitting -.133 with only two kills.

Service errors doomed Bellevue as Rogue held a 9-1 differential. In addition to the service errors, BC hit at a .103 percentage overall for the match. Zaiah Luna-Calvin led BC with 14 kills and also had 15 digs on the defensive end to lead the Bulldogs. Kyla Bonsen set up Luna-Calvin with 16 assists.

Bellevue finishes the 2019 season with an impressive 25-13 record. The squad was comprised of 100% freshmen and defeated and eliminated both North Region champion Whatcom and number-one ranked North Idaho at the tournament.
