Bellevue College volleyball will go on for yet another day of survival at the 2019 NWAC Championships held at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center as the Bulldogs topped North Region champion Whatcom 2-1 yesterday. The win not only got revenge on the region champ team that swept the Bulldogs in both matches earlier this year, but also moved them forward into an elimination match today at 10:00 against Rogue (OR).

In the Whatcom match, two points were the biggest margin of victory in all three sets as BC claimed set one 25-23 before Whatcom took set two 25-23. The Bulldogs were able to storm back from a 12-10 deficit to win 15-13 in set three. Three Orca mistakes in the final minute allowed BC to come back as Yaneli Garcia threw down a kill off a feed from Dyamonde Schirmer for the win.

The Bulldogs saved their cleanest set for the last, as the squad committed only one error with a hit percentage of .450. Although they played an exceptionally clean set, it took a little help from some key Whatcom errors to seal the win. Garcia paced Bellevue with 9 kills along with Zaiah Luna-Calvin.

The win puts Bellevue at 25-12 heading into this morning’s matchup against Rogue, a first-year program in Oregon.
