Women’s Basketball Scores Huge Win Over Big Bend

Addy Clabby

Bellevue College women’s basketball snapped a losing skid against the competitive East Region of the NWAC with an impressive 63-58 win over Big Bend at the Skagit Holiday Tourney tonight in Mount Vernon. The win not only put BC at 2-0 in the tourney, but also was significant in that Bellevue defeated one of the top teams in the East Region after going 0-2 thus far against their East counterparts this year. All of this was done without Bellevue’s top scorer Natalie Amos.

After leading 28-26 at halftime, BC took advantage of Big Bend’s 4-for-14 shooting in the third quarter to take six-point lead into the final frame. Although Big Bend shot an amazing 81% from the field in the final quarter, the Vikings were only able to get off 11 total shots in the fourth quarter as BC was able to capitalize from long range as Addy Clabby and Mo Bungay combined for a perfect 3-for-3 from long range to make up for Big Bend’s hot hands.

With the game tied at 56 with just over two minutes to go, a free throw by Bellevue’s Makenna Faulkner followed by a Big Bend turnover and a conversion off the steal by BC’s Rokki brown, the ‘dogs were up by three with just over a minute to play and held on for the win.

The win puts Bellevue at 6-3 overall and will play South Puget Sound tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in the final game of the round-robin tourney.
