Addy Clabby

Bellevue College women’s basketball decided to make things interesting tonight as the Bulldogs saw their 13-point lead in the fourth quarter shrink to four in the final minutes before holding off visiting Edmonds for good, winning 62-56 tonight at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.

After a slow start for both teams with Edmonds holding a 9-8 margin after the first quarter, both teams were able to generate more offense as the game wore on. The Bulldogs unleashed 17 points in the second quarter to head into halftime with a 25-21 lead. The ‘dogs then stretched the lead to double-digits off ten consecutive points by Amanda Luckett, stretching Bellevue’s lead from seven to 14.

In the fourth quarter, when it seemed Bellevue was ready to coast to victory, up by 15 at 49-34, Edmonds rallied with 3:44 left in the game down 51-42. The Tritons reeled off two baskets, a three-pointer, and a pair of free throws and found themselves back in in down by four. A 15-footer by Edmonds’s Kalei Cates with 1:06 left made it 55-51 Bellevue before the Bulldogs’s Addy Clabby delivered with a three-pointer putting the ‘dogs up 58-51 with only :36 left. The Tritons answered with a three-pointer which kept their chances alive before Clabby secured the win with two free throws.

Clabby was efficient in all facets of the game, sinking 4-of-5 from the field and 7-of-8 free throws in addition to 3 steals. Luckett, who got things going early for BC, was 7-for-10 from the field and yanked down 13 rebounds and had 5 blocked shots. The duo led Bellevue to the win and a 3-1 record in region play and a region-best 10-4 overall record. Bellevue travels to Bremerton this Saturday January 25 for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff against Olympic.
