Softball Goes 1-3 On Opening Weekend

Bellevue College softball under the new reigns of Head Coach Parris Mamon, went 1-3 but played competitively against two of the toughest teams in the NWAC in Lower Columbia and Clackamas on season-opening weekend at Bellevue College. On Saturday, the Bulldogs lost 10-1 to Lower Columbia in their season opener before falling 19-6 against Clackamas.

Today on Sunday, the ‘dogs bounced back with a 9-6 win over Clackamas before falling 15-11 to Lower Columbia. In the season’s first win, Bellevue’s Tori McDowell led the way with 3 RBI and a home run as the Bulldogs scored five in the final frame to come back from a 5-4 deficit in the seventh. McDowell’s 3-run bomb scored Elise Allen who walked and Jillian Zachry who singled to spark the rally. Allen, Nicole Leadley, and Shayla Cole each had two hits to lead BC.

In the nightcap tonight, BC could not hold onto the lead as the Bulldogs gave up 4 runs in the final inning despite 18 hits by the Bulldog offense. Zachry led the way with 4 hits while freshman Lizzy Olsen had three including a triple. A total of 287 pitches were thrown collectively in the slugfest between both teams.

Bellevue hosts SW Oregon and Centralia next week in another round-robin affair at Bellevue College. The squad’s Saturday February 29 twinbill begins with an 11:00 a.m. first pitch against SW Oregon before a 1:00 matchup against Centralia.
