Jerry Maris was a cross country and track athlete in 1979-81. He helped lead Bellevue cross country teams to NWAACC titles in 1979 and 1980, the first of six straight championships for the Helmsmen.

He placed fourth in 1979 and third in 1980 at the conference cross country meet. He won the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races at the 1980 track championships. He repeated as champion in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:41.04, a NWAACC record that still stands today.

After Bellevue, Maris went on to compete at the University of Colorado and is part of their Alumni C-Club, winning varsity letters in cross country and track in 1982, ’83 & ’84. He is also a member of the NWAC Hall of Fame.
