Women’s Basketball Fall In Season Opener

Mo Bungay BC women's basketball

In a long-awaiting return, Bellevue College women’s basketball opened up their 2021 season at an unusual time in spring, falling 73-58 at Whatcom. The Bulldogs, with a solid core of returners who were key players last season, had a rough night shooting both from the field and the free throw line all night. Possibly due to opening-night jitters, the ‘dogs shot 25% from the field and only 37% from the line as they quickly fell behind 21-7 after the first quarter. Bellevue had several opportunities to cut the deficit with 27 attempts at the line but could not take advantage of Whatcom’s 26 fouls.

Mo Bungay, one of the key players off the bench last year, drained seven three-pointers en route to a 29-point outing while also snagging 8 rebounds. Third-year starter Addy Clabby dished out 5 assists and had 2 steals in her playmaking role to aid Bellevue’s efforts. Head Coach Mel Stubblefield cycled in six new freshmen to get their playing experience going with Mckayla Rodriguez impressing with a team-high 12 rebounds in only 13 minutes of action.

Bellevue hosts Skagit Valley this Wednesday April 7 at 5:00 p.m.
