After pulling off two dramatic come-from-behind wins and holding off Edmonds in game three with the bases loaded in the final inning, more drama ensued in the finale as Bellevue and Edmonds duked it out in a 14-inning marathon that resulted in a 9-8 win for Edmonds. The dramatic finale prevented BC from sweeping all four games. Regardless, the ‘dogs took the series 3-1 and did so in impressive fashion.

On Friday April 16, Bellevue came out with authority as the first four batters of the game had hits; Austin McMinds singled before Ben Schulte tripled followed by Nick Hovland and Pierce Leavengood singles to lead the game off for BC. Fred Buckson and Tyler Miller would add hits as well as BC piled on four runs on six hits in the first frame. BC tacked on two more in the second on a single by Riley Parker. With a comfortable 6-2 lead, Edmonds fought back with five runs in the fifth on four hits, a walk and an error to take the lead, temporarily stunning the Bulldogs. Now down 7-6, BC rallied for four runs the next three innings to win 10-7.

In the nightcap, a pitching battled ensued between BC’s Trevin Hope and Edmonds’ Josh Latimer. Hope was relieved by Quincy Vassar who was dominant, yielding only two hits in four innings of shutout ball to give the ‘dogs a chance to win by scoring late as TreSean Steele’s single brought home Kyle Green for the eventual game-winner.

On Sunday, Bellevue again came out of the gates with a hot bat plating four runs in the first two innings to take a 4-1 lead. Up 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Edmonds rallied by scoring two runs and threatened with bases loaded with two outs before Michael Attalah was forced to enter for Bellevue and promptly struck out Edmonds’ Matt Erickson to end the game.

With the series already won, in the nightcap, Bellevue gave Edmonds an early edge on preventing the sweep by spotting the Tritons a 5-2 lead after one inning. Down 7-4 in the eighth inning, BC appeared to be out of the game before pinch-hitter Tyler Miller belted a three-run homer to put BC on top 8-7. While Edmonds was momentarily stunned seeing their chances of winning one game in the series dashed, Edmonds JJ Gerarden answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the eight to tie it up at 8-8. Attalah, who had to come in relief in game one, then went 6.1 innings of relief and took BC into the 14th inning before pitch count forced Attalah out. The Tritons answered the departure of Attalah with four consecutive walks by Bellevue relief pitchers to end the game 9-8 to finally put closure to the long dramatic series; one that will go down as yet another chapter in the longest rivalry in the NWAC between the two clubs.

Bellevue is now 5-3 and is one game back of Everett, who face Edmonds this weekend. BC will square off against Skagit Valley this weekend with a twilight doubleheader set for Friday April 23 at 4:00 at Courter Field.
