Baseball Falls In Series Finale But Takes Olympic Series

Ben Schulte

Bellevue College swept a doubleheader Friday night over Olympic before splitting yesterday in Bremerton to take the series 3-1.

In Friday’s opener, Jacob Dahlstrom kept BC in the game by going six strong innings of shutout baseball to give Bellevue’s bats time to get going in the 7-3 win. Dahlstrom had 0 walks and struck out 6 as the offense struck in the fifth on doubles by Tre’Sean Steele and Riley Parker to take control.

The 14-1 blowout in the nightcap was highlighted by a grand slam home run by Ben Schulte to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule. Ian Haigh came in relief of Nate Butcher and allowed only one hit through three shutout innings of work while walking one and striking out 8.

In yesterday’s split, Nick Hovland went 3-for-4 while Kye Seitz had two doubles to lead BC. Quincy Vassar and Aaron Barokas were dominant in relief allowing only two hits in four innings of work. Olympic scored two runs in the eighth to make things interesting on an unfortunate double due to a routine fly ball lost in the sunlight.

After rallying back to take the lead 4-3 in the eighth, a series of defensive miscues not only let Olympic tie the game in the bottom of the ninth but victory in extra innings as the ‘dogs fell 5-4. Several of the six Bulldog errors were costly as Olympic stayed in the game despite being outhit by Bellevue 10-8. Schulte’s hot bat remained on fire with a 3-for-5 outing.

Bellevue’s win streak was snapped at seven but finished the first half of league play in strong fashion with a 12-4 record. The squad has a bye this week before taking on Everett in a battle for first place in two weeks. All four games of that series will be held at home due to a scheduling conflict at Everett’s home field.
