Baseball Splits In Battle For First Place With Everett

Bellevue College baseball split the opening doubleheader yesterday winning a pitchers’ dual 3-1 in the opener before falling in an extra-inning affair 9-6. Cal Kirchoff fanned 9 in a battle with Everett’s Zach Boswell.

The ‘dogs got going early in the first inning as Ben Schulte singled then got a key stolen base to be in scoring position as designated hitter Kye Seitz promptly singled him home with two outs. After yielding a run in the third to tie the game at 1-1, BC did it again with two outs on a single by Riley Parker and Austin McMinds. Michael Attalah came in and allowed only one hit in two innings of shutout relief for the save.

In game two, after spotting Everett a 5-0 lead before chipping away then scoring four runs in the eighth on back-to-back 2-RBI hits by McMinds and Troy Baunsgard to take the lead 6-5.The Bulldogs appeared to have the game wrapped up with two quick outs in the top of the ninth but a single and ball in the gap allowed Everett to tie it up. The Trojans then seized back the momentum stringing five singles in the tenth inning for the win. The loss was Bellevue’s third extra inning affair this year as the teams meet up again Monday May 17 at 4:00 p.m.
