Baseball Loses First Series of Year

Bellevue College baseball lost three of four over the weekend to rival Edmonds, losing 4-2 and 7-4 on Friday before winning their sole game of the series Sunday 7-3. The Bulldogs went on to lose game for 6-4. Uncharacteristically, all of Bellevue’s starting pitchers struggled for the first time all season, as Nate Butcher, Trevin Hope, and Cal Kirchoff had one rough inning in each of their games which would ultimately dictate the outcome.

In Bellevue’s lone win Sunday, it was a victory with excitement for the fans as Austin McMinds and Fred Buckson hit back-to-back home runs on consecutive pitches in the eighth inning. The two sophomores, who were high school teammates at Central Kitsap HS, hit towering shots as McMinds cleared the center field fence while Buckson’s blast cleared the scoreboard in left field half way up the trees towering behind it.  Jacob Dahlstrom tossed a one-hitter in the start before Ian Haigh came in and struck out eight Edmonds batters in four innings of work for the save.

Bellevue dropped from first to third place in the North Region standings but are only one game back as they entertain Skagit Valley this Friday May 28 while the Tritons take on first place Everett for four games.
