
Bellevue College men’s basketball, behind an aggressive defensive front in the second half, rallied to overtake visiting Peninsula tonight 68-62 at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The Bulldogs had 9 steals in the second half, with 5 of them by O’Landa Baker which helped control possession as the ‘dogs had almost ten more attempts from the field giving them the opportunity to come from behind. Bellevue shot 46% from the field as they outscored the Pirates 39-30 in the second half.
It didn’t take long in the second half for Bellevue to take the lead as Kai Warren’s three-pointer just one minute into play gave BC a 34-32 lead. From there on Peninsula never threatened as Bellevue held a close but controlled lead the rest of the way for the majority of the second half.
Baker’s defense was highlighted by 7 steals, 9 rebounds, and 17 points; all team-highs for the night. Warren was 3-for-4 from three-point range and added 5 rebounds with 14 points. Nate Johnson came in from off the bench and in only 16 minutes was 5-for-7 including 3-for-3 from three-point land for 13 points.
Bellevue is 9-3 and in control of the North Region. The Bulldogs travel to Peninsula this Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
