Men’s Basketball Lose Nail-Biter

Maui Sze

Bellevue College men’s basketball fought back and battled Everett to the wire but fell short 70-64 tonight at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. After being down 11 points in the second half, Bellevue rallied and took the lead 46-45 with a little over 10:00 to play on a layup by Maui Sze. For the next nine minutes, the two teams stayed within a bucket of each other in a back-and-forth battle until the final minute of play. Down 64-61 with 1:15 in the game, Nate Johnson drained a three-pointer to tie it up at 64-64. After answering with a bucket by Devin Smith with 30 seconds to play, Bellevue could not answer and had to foul in order to send Everett to the line. The Trojans converted all four of their free throws in the closing seconds to prevent any further comeback by Bellevue.

The Bulldogs were relatively cold all night, shooting 32% from the field and 45% from the free throw line. Sze led Bellevue with 20 points and was the lone Bulldog who had the shooting touch going, converting 5-of-9 from three-point range. Bellevue now has a two game losing skid and face off with Everett again tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. with the North Region title on the line.
