Volleyball Dominates Skagit Valley in North Showdown

Coming off a tough loss at Edmonds on Wednesday, Bellevue College volleyball showed they are still one of the most feared teams in the NWAC as the Bulldogs responded with a 3-0 win against visiting Skagit Valley last night. The Cardinals came in with a 13-1 record and are enjoying their best season in decades. Any momentum they had with their winning season so far was quickly stymied by Bellevue’s veteran contender status as BC won in commanding fashion in all three sets, 25-18, 25-17, 25-12. Bellevue took full advantage of Skagit Valley’s offensive miscues, as the Cardinals hit at a .086 percentage in set one and closed out the night hitting negative .138.

The Bulldogs were never threatened in what was anticipated to be possibly a grueling five set match. Arianna Bilby led BC with 11 kills and 12 digs. She also had 3 service aces. Setter Justine Benson had 15 assists while Malia Honrud had 10. The Bulldog squad, besides just Bilby, was strong on the serving as the ‘dogs recorded 8 aces while Skagit had zero.

Bellevue’s rebound win puts them right back in the thick of things in the early North Region season at 2-1 (12-6 overall). The squad will travel to Bremerton next Wednesday October 6 for a match at Olympic.
