Bulldog Basketball Loses Nail-Biter at Tacoma

Bellevue College basketball was up by 10 points with 6:18 remaining and was less than 30 seconds away from claiming their second victory in as many nights to open the 2021-22 campaign before host Tacoma snatched away a 59-58 win. With clutch free throw shooting when it mattered the most, Tacoma’s Jourdan Joseph drained both free throws to seal the win.

Up 58-57 with :35 remaining in the game, BC committed a turnover to give Tacoma hope, and then were further aided by a foul, sending Joseph to the line. After sinking his first attempt tying the game at 57, Bellevue called timeout in an attempt to mount pressure on Joseph to execute his second free throw, which he did with :24 in the game.

The ‘dogs had one last chance but Nate Johnson’s layup attempt in traffic would not fall as the buzzer sounded.

With a lead throughout much of the game, Bellevue led 31-23 after halftime and was in control throughout much of the second before the late game heroics by the Titans.

In another balanced effort similar to the night before, BC was led by Maui Sze who had 12 points and four assists. Although Sze could not find the mark from long distance, going 0-5 from three-point range, Sze was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line as the ‘dogs shot 92% from the line. Newcomer Aydan Janssan had 11 points and 8 rebounds for Bellevue.

The Bulldogs are 1-1 and travel to Piece this Tuesday November 23 for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff against the Raiders before taking the Thanksgiving holiday off.
