Cold First Half Stymies Women’s Basketball Again

Bellevue College women’s basketball played their second game of the year today and had similar results as their season opening loss earlier this week as the Bulldogs fell behind early and lost 76-63 to Wenatchee Valley. The early deficit was again highlighted by cold shooting in the first half as Bellevue was down 22-15 in the first quarter before the squad really lost their touch, shooting 2-for-14 in the second quarter as BC was down 36-23 at halftime.

The Bulldogs finally found their rhythm in the second half warming up to a 46% shooting clip but were matched offensively by the Knights. Wenatchee Valley matched Bellevue shot for shot before BC eventually narrowed the lead to eight at 66-58 on a Willow Jackson three-pointer with 5:28 to go in the final quarter. Bellevue would miss their next three attempts and could not get any closer.

Brianna Byrnes had 18 points and 9 rebounds and 4 steals; all team highs for BC. Jackson had 15 points.

Bellevue has their second game of the Peninsula tourney tomorrow vs. Chemeketa (OR) at 2:00 p.m.
