Women’s Basketball Falls Just Short

Shae Bell

Bellevue College women’s basketball fought all four quarters in a back-and-forth battle at Edmonds, with the Tritons coming out on top 58-55. The Bulldogs had chances down the stretch but just couldn’t get the ball to fall through in the closing seconds. Edmonds had multiple opportunities to distance themselves but couldn’t convert on free throws which kept giving the ‘dogs hope.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Bellevue fell behind by as much as eight but converted six straight points on free throws from Willow Jackson and Helena van Ess along with a steal and layup by Brianna Byrnes. BC was back to within two at the 2:00 mark.

Jalena Henry, another one of BC’s returners along with Jackson, van Ess, and Byrnes, made the front end of her two free throws to bring the ‘dogs to within one at 55-56 with 1:01 to play but could not overtake the lead down the stretch.

Jackson had 10 points while Shae Bell and Henry each pulled down nine rebounds. Bellevue is 1-6 in league play and 4-10 overall. The Bulldogs host Whatcom this Wednesday February 16 at 5:00 p.m.
