In a match of the ages, Bellevue vs. Skagit Valley lived up to it’s hype as the Bulldogs came from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 (19-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-10) tonight at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The match pitted the top two teams both with only one loss in league play.

Bellevue fell behind early, 2-0 after two straight 25-19 sets. The Bulldogs, on the verge of spoiling Sophomore Night in addition to the chance to secure a top seed in the region with one week to play, stormed back with a 25-21 win in set three. The ‘dogs committed only one error hitting at a .300 clip. Two big errors on Skagit Valley’s side in addition to an ace by Lauren Wittmers put BC up 24-20 to begin what would be a miraculous run.

In set four it was all Bellevue riding the third set win as the Bulldogs jumped up 12-7. The Cardinals committed nine errors up front or from the service line to allow the ‘dogs to be right back in it forcing a fifth set.

The errors continued as BC jumped up 8-3 and could never get any closer.

Bellevue’s sophomore tandem of Marin Mackey and Meg Perry led the way with 12 kills apiece. Bellevue’s two setters Wittmers and Taylor Pederson had nearly equal nights with 20 and 25 assists respectively. Wittmers was on fire from the service line with five aces as well. Perry, and Pederson, who were both out of the lineup recently due to injuries or illness, showed their value in the big match. Makenna Mosher was a force up front with six block assists.

Bellevue is now in sole possession of first place at 9-1 while Skagit drops to 7-2. With a week to play, Bellevue put themselves in good position to clinch the North Region title with the win. Bellevue has a bye this Friday before two road matches next week at Everett (Wed. Nov. 2) and Whatcom (Fri. Nov. 4).
