Everett Rallies In Second Half for Win

Bellevue College men’s basketball fell 78-65 on the road at Everett as the host Trojans outscored BC 48-28 in a lopsided second half that not only flipped the momentum but reversed the outcome of the game.

Bellevue, while not necessarily shooting the lights out, led 37-30 after the first half as they outrebounded Everett 24-22 while generating a nine to two turnover advantage as well. Because of the ball control, Bellevue was able to keep the lead despite shooting four-for-19 (21%) from three-point range.

In the second half, Everett showed how defensive aggression can win games as the Trojans held Bellevue to 28 points, despite a higher field goal percentage by Bellevue in the second half. Everett outrebounded Bellevue 21-10 and was on fire from the field shooting a blistering 63% from the field. Jadin Penigar was eight-for-12 for Everett and scored 20 points to lead the surge. Owen Moriarty had 15 points in the half for Bellevue in an effort to keep the ‘dogs in the game.

The Bulldogs fatigued at the nine minute mark when Everett took the lead and never recovered as the Everett lead extended to double digits without any Bellevue threat for the remainder of the game.

Moriarty had 24 points to lead Bellevue. Bishop Tosi had 13 rebounds under the glass for the Bulldogs.

Bellevue is now 1-3 in league and will host Skagit Valley this Wednesday January 25 at 7:00 p.m. in a pivotal matchup. Both teams were among the top teams in the North Region following pre-season but have faltered early on in league play.
